It went really well. He came out with Mike Bubacz, another fighter. We went through 3 rounds. Each started with a truck pull (Yukon XL). In the 3rd round they went about 120' and I was kind enough to hit the breaks at the 1/2 way point. I kept the weights relatively heavy, considering the volume they were doing. Log was 135, 350 sled, 220 keg, 75# dumbbell, 100# farmer's (200-250 run on a short course (9 turns). They were both exhausted.

Tony,

Just let me know when...I'd love to see you there. Let me know when and I'll make sure I'm there. By the way, we have now incorporated a lot of strongman stuff into the conditioning. The sled, tire, log, keg, farmer's and thick barbells are all at the training center now. Along with some tires and lots of kettlebells and other weight equipment.

Very cool. I'll have to check out the calendar and see what is good for me.
After looking at their web site, it's peaked my interest.
1st thing though....I have to get in better shape if I plan on doing some of those brutal routines, hahaha

Thanks,
Tony

Tony - is the calendar open yet? Very Happy

Been working out off and on, battling some injuries. First it was my neck. I actually started seeing a chiro for that and it is about gone. Sorry for the bad things I said about chiros on Brad's injury thread a while back! Sad

On my first day grappling with a good neck I was a stupid ass and tried to fight off an ankle lock. When I went to execute my escape, my ankle made a very loud pop. This was on 8/1. It has hurt ever since. It never swelled or bruised and I am able to walk fine. However, there are certain angles that hurt like hell and it hurts to the touch. I think I must have stretched a tendon and the muscles are now spazzed up all around it. Of course I keep training as much as I can. I can now jog a little bit again. I ice it a couple times a day as well. It sucks because it really limits what I can do. For instance, push jerks hurt it a bit. This kills my confidence which in turn kills my performance and I end up quitting well before failure for fear of injury.

I'm going to start keeping my journal again so that I remain accountable. Here are some of my recent lifts:

DL - 500 x 5 - had 2-3 left in me. Was very happy with this as I'm only 200 pounds or so right now. I actually weighed 195 after mma a few weeks ago.

OHP - 225 x 6 push press - this was last week. Again, I had more in me, but I had just injured my ankle the day before and didn't want to push it.

OHP - today - push jerks - 225 x 2 sets of 3. Very far from failure, but these were hurting my ankle quite a bit and I didn't want to push it. I just want to keep form with a semi-heavy weight as it is easy for me to "forget" how to jerk the weight if I'm not doing them regularly.

All that time off and an injury and you still pulled 500x5?

I hate you.

Ha! The DL strength has hung in there quite well. Though it's not as though I've been at all inactive. OHP, on the other hand, is one that I really have to stay on top of or it will diminish quickly. I'm sure I couldn't get close to the 300 I got in January right now.

Super burpees - clean the weight, do a full front squat straight into an overhead press (not jerking the weight), put the weight back on the floor and finish the burpee by continuing to hold onto the bar, kicking your feet back, doing a push up, and then jumping back up to clean it again to begin the next rep.

135 x 3
80' sled drag with 225#
185 x 3
80' sled drag with 250#
225 x 3
80' sled drag with 300#
135 x 5
40' sled drag with 450#

Sled drags were done on a wrestling mat, so there are points where the sled really starts to stick.

Also, per Craig's advice, I got my anke x-rayed yesterday and there doesn't seem to be any fracture. It still hurts a bit, but I feel better knowing it's not broken. The Dr. prescribed Naprosyn. Not sure if I'll take it or not given the possible side effects I read about it.

that is good to hear it is not broken.

every medication has side effects. the media loves to talk about all of the negative things in life.
anti inflammatories are safe, especially taken short term.

I would have to believe anti inflammatory medication is no more harmful on your liver than a few cocktails. Nor more harmful on your cardiovascular system than eating shitty food loaded with fat.

at the very least I would ice the shit out of your ankle. 20 min 3-4 times per day.

nice job with those burpees! those look tough

Icing it right now. I will get the prescription tomorrow. I just get nervous because it said stomach bleeding is a possible side effect and I had a prescription give me an ulcer when I was 19 and that sucked.

Yes, the burpees really suck. They make me want to puke. Add the sled pulls and how tight my quads were and it just plain sucked. Thanks for the comment.
