We are going to host a meet in February.

The format will be one catering to Master's competitors and those for whom the mobility requirements of many events tend to dissuade them from conventional strength athletics. Strength, not strength-endurance or timing-related things will be emphasized, but not a powerlifting meet to be sure. Here are the details:

Divisions: Open LW,MW,HW, Master's LW, Master's HW

Events:

1. Thick-Dumbell Press, max (2-hand clean, 1-hand press, or ...

Have been working on the 2010 season for Illinois. Pretty much the same format as 09 in terms of the contests (January Challenge, March Challenge, May Challenge, ILSM, September Challenge and Illinois Hercules). Same format for the records and earning points towards the series, etc...

Some new items:

Possibly one or two silver meets geared more towards max events. The contest format for these are:

2 max events only

Scores are taken from total poundage, not points (similar to powerlifting)

What I would like to do, and have discussed this with the wife, is to set aside this July 4th as the date for an Illinois Strongman picnic. Nothing fancy, just hot dogs and chips, etc...

2.The stone in the medley is a Husafel-type steel implement - not really a stone exactly. The weights will be reduced - I get the feeling people are turned off by the thought of running with what they may believe is a 300# atlas stone. It'll be lightened anyway - something like 245 for ...

The teen division is not there this year, but there are 60 spots instead of 50. You can either mail in entry form, or use the on-line registration at www.beaverstrengthandcombat.com that will be up in the next couple of weeks. The event usually fills up by the January, so get it in soon and hope to see you there!

I finally figured out how to post links to the entries. They are now located on our web site www.ilstrongman.com
I posted not only the Series meets but also the Record Breaker Days and Club Power Meets.

Special Note:
Club Power Meets are now qualifiers for the Illinois Hercules (but not NAS Nationals).

Important CSM Update

The cap for the 2009 CSM will be dropped from 60 down to 40. The entries are maybe half of what they were this time last year. With all of the other meets going on, question marks regarding gameday help, and my own personal schedule, 40 will be best for everyone involved. I wanted to make sure to give everyone the heads up on this so people can plan as needed.
Thanks again everyone and let me know if you have any questions.

Keith Crone, Daniel McCarron, and I believe Dave Bernreuther have suggested we use two racks for the Squat Medley. This way the guys may go back and forth squating while the staff loads the bar not being used.
I like the idea and am looking into setting it up.

Non-Strongman meets/ Fund Raisers

I have been throwing around the idea of having a couple of Club Fund raising meets. Possibly a power meet (Squat, Bench, Deadlift) or Olympic lifting type meet (Clean and Strict Press, Clean and Jerk, Snatch).

These wouldn't come about till we built the new "gym" though. These meets would help with the payments for the building.

Any ideas and suggestions welcome.

We have been working on the 09' Illinois Ultimate Strength Series and should have everything set fairly soon.
There will be few changes from this year to next. The main change is the wt classes. Instead of only having a LW/ HW in the smaller Series meets we plan on having 200, 231, 265, 266+ classes instead.

Keep an eye on the website and forum for new updates.

Club "Gym"

I was able to get 6 estimates for various sized building kits from Menards.

24' x 30' starting around $5000 and 30' x 40' around $8500. This does not include the concrete slab.

These are fairly reasonable compared to what Morton or Cleary would have charged me (at least twice to 3 times the amount). I'm confident I'd be able to build it.

I'll be calling around for estimates for concrete slabs then...

The next stage is to contact the St. Anne Bank and get permission ...
